In “We Need to Talk”, the viewer becomes a necessary part of the piece. BFA Junior and performance artist, Cassidy Routh, wants the interactivity of this work to be both empowering and uncomfortable.

Participants spin the wheel she wears (which dictates why they’re ending their relationship), share a card with a piece of information about them, and then break up with her with those two factors driving the dialogue. Routh endured 18 break-ups the first time she performed this piece with a rolling laugh track and Hall and Oates’ ‘You Make My Dreams’ mocking the seriousness of the conversations.
